The School: The Devon School of English is a friendly, family-run school that has been welcoming international students for over 40 years. They are accredited by British Council, Quality English and English UK. The school has been offering courses for teachers since 1974, these have included language & methodology programmes for primary and secondary school teachers as well as ESL teachers of adult learners, teachers of English literature and business English teachers preparing students for BEC tests.
The Location: Paignton is a seaside town at the centre of a spectacular bay called Torbay in the English Riviera. Torbay is famous for its wonderful coastline with over 30 kilometres of beaches and wonderful landscape.
The Experience: Through practical and engaging activities, trainees see how ideas are translated into classroom tasks, approaches and behaviour. Areas such as planning, staging, selecting target language, presenting & practising language, checking concepts, teaching grammar & vocabulary, monitoring, setting up activities, grading language, error correction, modelling & drilling, warmers, fillers & games, skills teaching, use of music and drama, motivation, use of IT resources and promoting learner autonomy are addressed as per need and elated to a holistic, learner centred communicative approach. All trainees receive recommendations for future study and a personalised list of resources for them to use, these may include on-line corpora, ESL websites, speech analysis software, speech recognition software and teaching forums.

What is included? Course, School Certificate, accommodation in homestay, single room with breakfast and dinner plus all taxes. Our 2-week, 46-hour advanced teaching methodology course has been designed for qualified teachers who are seeking to:
– refine their practical skills;
– broaden their use of resources and classroom activities
– and deepen their understanding of language and language acquisition.
Price does not include air tickets and insurance.
Before the course: Before the course commences, trainees are asked to complete a needs analysis form and a course focus form so the school can devise the best possible training programme for each group of trainees. Trainees are asked to describe their present or future teaching context and prioritise the areas they would like to address in their course from a menu of input sessions. Some pre-tasks and reading are also forwarded to each trainee. After the course: All trainees are encouraged to maintain contact with their trainer and fellow trainees after the course.
